Craft brewing continues thrive and expand throughout the U.S., creating new, exciting opportunities for some cities while others see the chance to dust off their history.

The art of brewing in the U.S. western state of Nevada dates back to the gold rush days when miners spent long, treacherous days underground. After emerging to the surface after a long span of work, miners were greeted with pints of icy cold beer.

Today, little remains of these once booming cities of the West, but no matter where you are in the state of Nevada, you are never far from a spot that is ready to serve you a refreshing, craft beer.

Located just outside of Reno, Virginia City was once home to 27 breweries and 150 saloons to quench the workers’ thirsts, but today, only one brewery and a handful of bars remain. The local staple, Bucket of Blood Saloon, is the place to go to get your hands on a delicious pint of beer from yesteryear: The Boca Lager Beer. Poured fresh from the source at Boca Brewery, this light, refreshing lager continues to be a staple of the area for its simple key ingredient: Ice.

But this isn’t the only secret to Nevada’s mouthwatering beers. Journey less than five hours away where you can wander the remains of Wyland Brewery, which miners built in 1901 with the stones from the nearby mine. Today, the considerably smaller town still draws in curious visitors to get a taste of the unique flavors of Tonopah Brewery, which has been in operation since 2014. Tonopah's brewers enjoy testing new flavors through traditional recipes, like replacing hops with juniper, which is more readily available in the desert.

No trip to Nevada would be complete without experiencing the lively and exciting city of Las Vegas, where more alcohol is consumed per capita than any other city in the world.

Craft beer is still gaining its footing in this exciting, party city, but Banger Brewing has found their home among the bright lights of the casinos and shows on Fremont Street. Serving up both the expected classics and unexpected combinations, you’re sure to find a brew that suits your taste in this desert oasis.
