We got an early start on the day with a sunrise hike near the hotel.
The pathway led us to a breathtaking, landscaped ledge overlooking the red rock mountains. We took some pictures and then walked into downtown Sedona for exploration. We found a quaint art gallery full of classic American art and memorabilia. We snapped photos at the beautiful and historic Chapel Road, as suggested by several locals. After exploring, we ate breakfast at the L'Auberge Restaurant on Oak Creek. It was a beautiful way to say goodbye to the serene L'Auberge de Sedona.
Cathedral Rock, Sedona
We couldn’t leave Sedona without stopping for a quick hike at one of the most scenic hiking trails around, Cathedral Rock, named for—you guessed it—looking like a cathedral. We hiked up for 30 minutes and were rewarded with an awesome view. We caught our breaths while watching a group of mountain bikers take on the terrain below, then made our way back to the car to head towards Scottsdale, Arizona.

Saguaro, Scottsdale
After a stunning drive through Arizona’s desert dotted with saguaro cacti, we arrived at the Saguaro Hotel, located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. We walked past the pool, which looked really lively and fun, to drop off our bags before heading into Old Town Scottsdale for the evening.

The charming streets and stores felt as if we had stepped into an old Western film set. We admired the charming cowboy street signs and many interestingly shaped cacti. We discovered the Cider Mill, a cute little soda shop with an impressive menu of handmade sodas and floats (soda with a scoop of ice cream). We had a Root Beer Float, Orange Dream and Prickly Pear Cream Soda, and all were great! We strolled around the flower-filled Scottsdale Mall and chatted with a couple of locals for dinner recommendations. Los Olive’s Mexican was suggested for some authentic Mexican food, which is where we decided to dine. We heard that the chimichangas and enchiladas couldn’t be missed, so that’s what we ordered. All were very tasty and set us up for our final craft brewery stop on the tour.

Craft Beer Spotlight
Four Peaks Brewery, Scottsdale
Our first brewery of the day was the Four Peaks Brewery for a break. We ordered a flight of their best local craft beers, Sunbrew, Peach Ale, Hop Knot IPA, 8th Street Ale, RAG, Hefeweizen, Kilt Lifter and Oatmeal Stout. We also happily accepted a few free samples of their seasonal brew.
O.H.S.O. Brewery, Scottsdale
We arrived at the trendy local Saturday night hangout, O.H.S.O. Brewery, and were swiftly seated at a comfy diner style booth. Invigorated by the lively atmosphere, we ordered a pitcher of Backyard Blonde, along with some good old-fashioned American Pie.
It was the perfect pairing to end our American and German Craft Beer Trail. We’re on to our next adventure. Join us as we take our British friends through the famous Oregon Trail. See you out there, road-trippers!
