A small, history-packed island capital
The Heart of the City
Plaza de España has served as the center of cultural, religious and government activity in Guam for centuries. Historic sites here include the Azotea, the last remaining structural element of the Governor’s Palace; the Almacen Arches, the signature triple arches that were the entrance of the royal warehouse built in 1736; and the Chocolate House, a round building used by both the Spanish and American administrations. The four-kilometer Hagatna Heritage Walking Trail winds through the village and connects 17 historical sites. One of the most prominent is Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica
